Chapter 47: Kent sat in a chair in front of Lieutenant Ohale’s desk as his commanding officer flipped through the now-thick case file on Manny Abalo’s murder. Fluorescent lights buzzed faintly overhead, making Kent’s already-throbbing headache worse as Brent Mahuiki, whose work it had been to assemble and organize the file, tapped his pen nervously against his notepad. “Everything okay with the paperwork, sir?”

Lieutenant Ohale gave a brief nod and set down the manila folder. "Alright, let’s go over what we’ve got," he said. “I asked you here because the Oahu ME’s office sent their final report on Manuel Abalo’s death."

Kent straightened slightly. It had been long enough since he asked for a second opinion on cause of death that he’d almost forgotten about it.
