Chapter 38: Back at the station in Hilo, Kent and Mahuiki pulled together their case notes and printed everything out, loading the still-lean murder book in preparation for their meeting with Lieutenant Ohale.
“Think we’ll get that warrant today?” The younger man asked, wrangling the hole puncher. Kent had just finished instructing him on the order of the documents to be included and was now letting him learn by doing.
“I’ve written up the situation as best I could on the warrant application,” Kent said. “I think it’s compelling. You ran it by the courthouse and submitted it to the judge’s clerk. Now we cross our fingers. That’s the process.”
“Gives Garcia time to wash the ATV. Hide…whatever,” Mahuiki grumbled.
“Maybe.” Saving him from further fruitless discussion, the desk phone rang. “Detective Higa,” Kent answered.
