Anniversary charms of Yachats, on the Oregon coast...
Plus some hard-won wisdom on long-term relationships
I wrote about Yachats last year, in my round-up of the best Oregon coastal towns. We didn't stay in the village itself at the time; we camped at nearby Tillicum State Park and drove in for day visits.
This winter, we had an opportunity to delve more deeply into the charms of the area when we stayed at the Yachats Inn to celebrate our 37th anniversary. Mike made the arrangements; he reserved a room in the rustic motel that faced the ocean with a corner view made up entirely of windows because we both love watching the ocean.
Turns out Yachats is only about an hour and a half from where we live, but we meandered along the 101 on the coast, enjoying the beautiful views of Hecata Lighthouse and a fantastic short hike down to a hidden beach, called the Hobbit Trail. Just past the Lighthouse turnoff and marked with a small sign, the Hobbit Trail splits at the beginning with one section heading south toward the famous light…
