After my love letter to Lahaina, I went into action/helping mode and have been focused on bringing attention to a couple of places where a few of your dollars can really make a difference.
BUY ANY OF THESE THREE BOOKS SET IN LAHAINA DIRECT FROM ME & I WILL DONATE PROCEEDS TO FIRE VICTIMS ON MAUI!
Mystery novels set in Lahaina to benefit Maui fire victims—now there’s an idea!
Truth is, I owe these stories to Lahaina, a wonderful setting in the past—and hopefully it will be again in the future.
It only makes sense to share the proceeds from these special books with folks in need.
I'm donating every penny from the direct sales of these three books that center around Lahaina, Maui, specifically to help fire victim kids.
Here are the links to each e-book whose proceeds will be donated.
Be sure to choose the BUY FROM ME option, and follow the prompts! (Your e-books will be delivered via Bookfunnel on a separate email when the transaction is complete.)

what this is all about:
The catastrophic fires on Maui are all over the news. Death toll on the island is over a hundred and counting. The town of Lahaina is gone, and over 200 homes upcountry as well.
I have watched in shock, horror and grief from my place in Oregon as climate change wreaks havoc on my beloved Maui. Our house on the island, currently occupied by renters, has been spared so far, and my direct family are okay. Thanks to all the loving readers who reached out to check on us!
I wanted to do something for the place I owe these stories to.
For the next month, ANY of the above titles you BUY FROM ME on my website will be donated in full to a special cause: KEIKI CUPBOARD, the nonprofit I founded in 2008 with my sister Bonny to give support to kids on Maui, directly through their schools.
In the wake of the fires, the needs are overwhelming...but I am already embedded as a founding board member and vice president of this wonderful little grassroots nonprofit so I’ve chosen to focus my efforts here.
A little over a week post-fire, and our phones have been ringing off the hook and email is blowing up as school starts on the island, with hundreds of kids showing up with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Our board members are busy buying and delivering supplies all over Maui, and I want to help! and YOU CAN TOO.
YOU CAN HELP TOO!
Check out Keiki Cupboard and give directly at the secure DONATE button on the website, and you can be assured every penny goes to the kids. We have no paid staff and little overhead.
OR, buy one of the books above set in Lahaina on Maui and I will donate for you at the end of the month.
Readers are some of the most compassionate people in the world, and Maui's kids are counting on us. MAHALO in advance!
Above is a still shot of me talking on Facebook about selling these three books for the fire victims, and why I'm doing that. I tried to embed a video of me sharing about this on FB but it wouldn't work, so try this link if you care to!
Mahalos for your support of the fire victim children on Maui!
And…live each moment like it might be your last.
The night the fire broke out on Maui, I was sleeping soundly in Oregon, happy becuase our son Caleb was visiting and helping us with a home improvement project. We kept our phones off and went super early a beach where we went agate hunting.
Caleb, my outdoor adventurer, is already a rockhound who loves to find treasures on his hikes. We had a blast clambering among the rocks and he found an excellent crystal geode.
Later, we heard the fire news and joy gave way to tears.
Isn't that how life is?
Wherever you are, take care and remember to fully live every moment…because it can all change in an instant. The truth of that makes our time precious. Spend it wisely. And spend your dollars wisely, too. I hope you’ll give these books and Keiki Cupboard a look.
Thank you!
Mahalo for doing this! After my first big contribution to HCFʻs Maui Strong Fund, I committed to $100 a day to small efforts or individual families in need. Yours will get todayʻs donation!
