When I was growing up on Kauai and we camped or lived in our van for extended periods (what you would call “homeless” nowadays) I liked our lifestyle; the only time I disliked it as a kid, was when it was raining.
And on the North Shore of Kaua’i, it rained a lot. A van (or a tent for that matter) gets awfully small when it’s raining.
But something about those early years stuck with me more than it has with my three sisters, probably because I’m the oldest. I remember those peripatetic days with our parents well.
But my current love of camping and living on the road also has to do with the man I married.
