Tawny slept in the next morning and I watched the river through the fog and studied a botany book I found on the cabin’s shelf. When our daughter eventually arose wearing a beatific smile, I knew Cassiar was working its sleep-catchup magic on my stressed-out scientist daughter. We took showers in the cabin’s peaty water and enthusiastically greeted Lisa when she came by with the dogs for a walk.
After studying the botany book, I thought I might be able to recognize the mushrooms Shane had shown me the other day. Tawny and Lisa chatted and played with the dogs, who were in a silly mood, as we walked, and I asked Lisa if she’d like to look for mushrooms with us.
