A change in course leads to cognitive dissonance in North Dakota
A brush with fracking gives us pause
Mike woke up extra early the next morning at Lake Metigoshe, North Dakota, as another storm moved in the whip the trailer with wind and rain.
Using Google Maps, a paper atlas, a calculator and a calendar, he figured out how many hours of driving time it would take to make it all the way to the East Coast (Acadia National Park in Maine) and then back to California through the southern states, our original travel route.
When I woke up, he showed me our original list of destinations (mostly national parks) and the estimated drive times between them.
Our changes of route due to fire and weather had kept us hugging the coast between California and Washington much longer than we’d originally planned, which had thrown off our timeline. Now the season was changing, bringing increasing weather challenges.
